Dieting during pregnancy

Pregnancy is one of the most amazing things of a woman’s life, but this does not mean that there won’t be any problems. You want to be sure that you are only doing what is good for your baby, even if this means giving up your comfort. Many women feel the need to make a change when the baby is about to arrive, and one of the first things they do is to go on a diet.

On the other hand, there are many myths surrounding dieting during pregnancy. Some doctors say that this will affect your baby, others believe that you won’t be able to breastfeed and even some nutritionists tell you that you shouldn’t reduce your meals. What should you do?

From the start you have to know that dieting in itself does not affect the pregnancy in any way. Actually, losing extra weight during this time might be beneficial because the fat will not put pressure on your internal organs. This means that the baby will develop in natural way, and your body will work at maximum capacity to maintain a healthy pregnancy. The child will get enough nutrients and blood and you will no longer feel exhausted with every step you take.

Another advantage of losing excess weight during pregnancy is that you will eliminate many health risks. As you already know, obesity can trigger heart and blood pressure disease, not to mention that it will affect, more or less, every organ of your body. Being healthy for your child is a priority.

Then why they say it’s dangerous? Well, that is only because you have to know exactly what and how much to eat. During pregnancy you need to eat more than usual, but the extra food does not have to be full of calories and sugars. As long as you eat right (veggies, fruits, whole grains, lean protein) you will not have to worry about your baby or your body weight. As a matter of fact you won’t even feel like dieting!

Discuss with your doctor and make sure that you don’t lose too much weight. With confidence, love and strong will you will have the body that you want as a new mother!
