Is Walking The Key To Improved Health?

Is walking the new smoking?

Most professionals work at a desk job that keeps us seated 8 or more hours a day. When you get off work for the day, you sit on the bus, train, or in the car—then sit on your couch at home, before you lay down to rest for the evening. Our bodies were designed to stand, walk, stretch, and move—but all this sitting is wreaking havoc on our health. Even if you work out 4 or 5 days a week, it is likely doing little more than cancelling out some of your sedentary lifestyle. Studies show that sitting is now equally as unhealthy as smoking. However, there is something you can do about it!

Find Fast, Fun, And Easy Ways To Walk And More

Dr. Christian Northrup of Goddesses Never Age suggests those whose job requires them to sit more often than not simply stand up no less than 32 times throughout the day. This will help to improve circulation, and activate muscles from head to toe. Standing also burns 50 more calories per hour than sitting—which really adds up! Also, increase your movement by:

  • Walking during your lunch and coffee break, or before or after work
  • Take the stairs instead of the elevator
  • Do simple seated or office stretches
  • Invest in a convertible sitting/standing desk
  • Sit on a stability ball for some or all of the day

The goal is simply to move more throughout the day, which is an easy way to impact your health positively.
