If your bedroom closet is feeling cluttered, it’s time to downsize. However, this is often easier said than done. Here are ideas to help you finally free up some room and still leave plenty of stylish options.
Pull Everything Out
First, pull absolutely everything out of your closet. It won’t be pretty, but it’s the only way to gauge what is there. If your closet is large, do this by section, shelf, or drawer.
Try It On
There is often a lot of sentimental value in our clothing, but if it doesn’t fit, there isn’t much of a case for keeping it. If you’re hanging onto items you hope you’ll be able to squeeze into again or that fit but are not flattering, it’s time to let them go.
Does It Support Your Lifestyle?
Most of us require a versatile range of clothing. Work clothing, athletic attire, comfy clothes to wear on lazy days, and old clothing perfect for cleaning and home maintenance. If you haven’t worn it in the last 6 months or the last season it was designed for (summer, winter, spring, or fall) then it’s time to let it go. As always, there are exceptions to the rule. You may not wear your tuxedo or formal gown often, but if it still fits, you should keep it.
Also, clear room in your closet by transferring seasonal and formal wear to another area in your home.
