With more of us working full-time or part-time from our laptops, you may be searching for somewhere to work other than your home office. Or maybe you are searching for a place to work while you travel. Coworking spaces and coffee shops are likely to be at the top of your list, here are some pros and cons of both.
Coworking spaces are perfect if you are in need of some shared office amenities, such as a scanner, fax, and copy machine. Each coworking space is unique in terms of what it offers in terms of office supplies, as well as the ability to drop-in, rent monthly, or rent a full private office. These are also cost-effective spaces to hold meetings if you require a space more formal than a coffee shop—however, some even have coffee shops and cafes. Sometimes hours and days of operation are limited.
Coffee shops are a perfect place to work, that is if the café is long-stay friendly. A good indicator, is if they have ample seating, outlets, and others working on their laptops. Keep in mind that you will need to “pay rent” by ordering beverages or food. Many coffee shops are open early, and late—meaning you can always pop in to get some work done.
Coworking spaces are also like to be quieter than coffee shops. Also, don’t rule out other spaces such as the public library or outdoor parks with Wi-Fi access. As always, be mindful when using public or shared Wi-Fi.
