Ok, so for those of you who speak Español, I already know what you are thinking—Jugo Verge is green juice. However, only in translation. If the veggie-heavy green smoothie or juice isn’t your thing, give this tropical alternative a try.
Jugo Verde Your Way
For best results, you will want to use fresh-cut pineapple and fresh squeezed OJ. If in a pinch you can of course use bottled, but at least go for organic blends with no additives. As far as the green, cilantro or parsley is a must—and a tiny bit of spinach. Don’t worry, the juice will taste tropical and fruity sweet.
- 2 cups course chopped pineapple
- 8 ounces fresh OJ
- A handful of cilantro or parsley, with the stems
- 1 or 2 cups of spinach
- Any combination of: 1 cup cucumber, 2 celery stalks, 1 cleaned cactus pad
Place ingredients in a blender, and blend until smooth. While you should expect a bit of froth, don’t let it blend so long that you have more than an inch-and-a-half or so of froth.
How Long Is Your Jugo Verde Good?
When it comes to any fresh squeezed juice or smoothie, drinking shortly after blending or juicing is best. However, I know you are busy and may be looking to plan ahead a bit. If you must juice or blend the night before, that works. Just keep in mind that smoothies don’t always look as appealing after they have sat in the fridge for a while. You can also put smoothies in the freezer but they will need some time to defrost. Never consume more than 48 hours later.
