The older and busier your kids get, the more of your already limited free time is spent running them from one activity to the next. Between work, home, and the rest of your commitments—it’s almost impossible to find time to work out. Here are a few ways busy parents can sneak in their workouts.
Walk During Your In-Between Time
If you have 10, 15, or 30 minutes to spare in-between errands, or while waiting for band, sports, or other extracurricular activities to wrap up—walk. Walk around the block, walk in a nearby park, or walk around the school track with other parents while you wait. Also, avoid the traffic jam in the school parking lot by parking a few blocks away and walking to and from. At the very least, stand as much as you can and burn between 20 to 50 more calories per hour.
Plan More Active Family Activities
Since family time is at the top of your to-do list, aim to plan more fun active family outings and activities:
- Have an impromptu dance party.
- Invest in more outdoor games and sports.
- Invest in indoor physical electronic games, like Wii sport.
- Go to the park to play with the kids.
- Walk the dog.
- Go on a family hike or bike ride.
- Head to the pool for some family swim time.
- And more!
It’s not easy fitting physical fitness in, but just with just 20 or 30 more minutes a few days a week busy parents can sneak workouts in between their gym or at-home workouts.
