Regardless of your weight or dedication to diet and fitness, your fascia could be your roadblock to your fitness goals. Is your fascia making you fat?
What Is Fascia?
Fascia is the connective tissue that holds us together. It gives shape to your muscles and attaches them to your bones. We all have fascia from head to toe, but overuse, poor posture, and sitting at your desk all day while working can restrict this connective tissue. When this happens, you get adhesions that minimize blood circulation and decrease mobility in our joints. This can restrict range of motion and mobility, but also inhibit our ability to achieve our fitness and sculpting goals.
Think of fascia kind of like a spiderweb, and adhesions as areas of buildup and blockage. Ashley Black of the FasciaBlaster has tons of great information on how fascial adhesions contribute to cellulite, saddlebags, love handles, and overall body shape. In addition, releasing your fascia can minimize pain and increase flexibility. Since this tissue is connected from head to toe, releasing fascia anywhere in your body can provide health-boosting benefits throughout.
How To Release Your Fascia
There are tons of ways to release fascia, some of the easiest including:
- DIY or scheduled trigger point massage
- Physical therapy
- Resistance flexibility training
- The Classic Stretch program
- Foam rolling
So, is your fascia making you fat? It certainly could be. At the very least, add a bit of myofascial release to your daily or weekly routine.
