Eating habits-how to get healthy?

Very often we don’t think about what we eat, as long as it tastes good. We have a busy life that does not leave us too much time to cook, prepare or search for natural food. Even more than this, it’s close to impossible to have a clear eating schedule; today you are free for lunch, but tomorrow you have to deal with a cranky boss.

With all this being said, we can’t deny that it’s time for a change. Miracles don’t happen overnight, but we can make adjustments that will improve our overall condition as well as our nutritional habits. How to get healthier?

  • Control your portions. You go to the restaurant, you order your favorite dish and you receive a plate full of food, enough for two people. Will you leave anything in the plate? Probably not; you are  hungry and the food is tasty. For sure this scenario is familiar for you as well as millions of people around the world. The problem is that big portions will affect much more than just your body weight; it can lead to digestive problems, high cholesterol, diabetes, heart conditions and much more. The solution? Eat just enough to get satisfied; if you have a full stomach, don’t force yourself to eat that last piece of bread.
  • Don’t eat late at night. If you have a job that does not leave you too much free time, it’s difficult to find time to eat during the day. When you get home in the evening, you eat a big dinner to reward yourself for all the hard work. This is one of the biggest mistakes that you can do that will affect you for years to come. It’s better to go to bed with an empty stomach than to eat too much. Since you will not starve yourself in the evening, try another trick: eat as many veggies as possible. Before you eat your main dish (pasta, pizza?) eat a huge salad.
  • Eat a fruit per day. Many people don’t like fruits or they don’t have the chance to eat them that often. They take lunch and dinner in places where they can’t find a bowl of apples on the table. If you are one of them, you have to know that it is vital for your health to have enough vitamins and minerals in your body. This will not only increase your dopamine levels (yes, you will feel happier) but it will also speed up your metabolism and help repair the damaged cells. Don’t try to go on a vegetarian diet all of a sudden, but eat a fruit per day, preferably in the morning. Soon enough you will love your new habit.
  • Drink a coffee. I can not emphasize enough how dangerous coffee is when you have it in big quantities. Sure, one-two cups per day will not do any bad, but more than this can bring you a lot of troubles. Heart problems, high blood pressure (or low blood pressure), liver problems, gastritis. All this does not sound nice, so why keep a habit that will hurt you in the future? If you can’t survive a day of work without caffeine, go for white or black tea; they will keep you awake without any other danger.

The world is full of temptations, and a good meal is indeed a reward. However, your health needs to be a priority. When you eat good, you feel good.
