Foods to Help with Anxiety

Anxiety is a big issue today, as many of us have a great deal of stress in our lives.  Reducing stress is essential for a long and healthy life, and for enjoying the time we have with our loved ones.  Saying NO to responsibilities that you don’t enjoy or know you don’t have time for is a good step, as is meditation and having relaxing hobbies.  Besides these tips though, choosing healthful foods that can help relieve stress and anxiety will go a long way towards keeping you sane in insane times.

Eating avocados is a great way to bust stress.  Their particular kinds of fats are highly anti-inflammatory, and are known for their benefits to neurological tissue.  This means they can help to soothe irritated brain cells, and improve signaling between hormone receptors that help to balance mood.  Plus, the B vitamins help to balance energy levels.

Blueberries are just sweet enough to give you that delicious and satisfying pop, but are filled with the anthocyanins and antioxidants that help our bodies regain balance.  Blueberries are uniquely great for cognitive and emotional stability, and can help to reduce stress while they protect and repair cells.

Coconut Oil

It’s true, there is very little that coconut oil isn’t helpful for.  Coconut oil contains MCTs, medium chain triglycerides, which are basically like fuel that goes straight to your brain.  It helps to boost mental energy and faster thought, while improving mood.  Eating coconut oil is also great for balancing bood sugar, and blood sugar roller coasters are one of the biggest reasons we have mood problems in the first place.

The best advice is to stay away from processed foods, especially things that are high in sugars and starches, and low in nutrients.  Aim for vegetables, nuts, fruits, and proteins before reaching for the ice cream and pizza, and you’ll find that your psyche will be soothed more often than not.
