Easy At-Home Deep Conditioning Treatments

Deep condition your hair at home

Whether your hair is over processed, dry, or damaged—or you simply want to take a proactive approach to keeping your hair looking its best, you may be considering a deep conditioning treatment. Instead of heading to the salon for an expensive deep conditioning treatment, do it yourself at home.

Hot Oil Treatments

You can purchase hot oil treatments at just about any store that sells hair care products, or you can head to your kitchen and make your own hot oil treatment from olive oil, coconut, jojoba, almond, sesame, or avocado oil. Blend multiple oils, or test each oil individually. Simply warm the oil for 10 seconds in the microwave, but don’t actually get it too hot.

  • Shampoo your hair, and towel dry.
  • Apply generously to your hair, just after warming—and comb through root to tip. About 1 tablespoon for short hair, and 2 to 4 tablespoons for longer hair.
  • Cover with a shower cap and leave on for 20 to 30 minutes before rinsing.
  • Style as usual.

DIY Deep Conditioning Hair Mask

You can buy a hair mask from your preferred hair care brand, but you can also use your everyday conditioner as a hair mask.

  • Shampoo your hair, and towel dry.
  • Apply a generous amount of conditioner to your hair, at least twice as much as normal.
  • Cover with a shower cap and leave on for 20 to 30 minutes before rinsing.
  • Style as usual.

Deep conditioning can be done a couple of times a month, or at least once per week.
