Getting Into The Christmas Spirit

Get into the Christmas spirit this instant!

Of the 195 countries around the world, over 160 celebrate Christmas. Christmas is not solely a Christian holiday as it is celebrated by global citizens of every faith, religion, and culture. It’s not just gift giving that makes Christmas so appealing, but its also about the time spent with family and friends—and the customs and traditions you create within your family and community. Gifts aside, here are a few ways to get into the Christmas spirit.

  1. Put on your favorite holiday CD. Don’t have one yet? Head to YouTube to find one worth investing in. My current favorite is Lionel Richie’s Sounds of the Season.
  2. Bake and decorate holiday cookies. Not a baker? Head to the grocery store for cookie decorating kits made for ready-to-bake cookies, or buy pre-made cookies that just need icing and sprinkles.
  3. Hop in the car and drive around looking at all the holiday lights. Look for a local Zoo Lights or head to your local city center to see the holiday décor and displays.
  4. Make your favorite holiday beverage. Add crushed candy canes to coco, make eggnog, sip seasonal cider, hot buttered rum, or create your own festive beverage.
  5. Rent, download, or record your favorite holiday movies—and enjoy a movie marathon. Love Actually and the classic, Grinch Who Stole Christmas! are at the top of my list!

These are all excellent ways to get into the Christmas spirit, but nothing tops doing something thoughtful for someone else. You don’t have to do anything extravagant, just keep your eyes open for ways to spread the holiday cheer.
