I don’t know about you, but I really don’t like the taste of cough syrup. And, even though it is effective, I don’t like the chemical ingredients. Over the years, I have tried many natural alternatives and have been disappointed in the results. Finally, I tried my friend’s family recipe, an all-natural DIY pineapple cough syrup recipe.
Pineapple Cough Syrup Recipe
This recipe has been in my friend’s family for years. When she has a post-cold cough, she eats fresh (not canned) pineapple, but when she is sick, she turns to the recipe below:
- 2 cups of chopped fresh pineapple, with core
- 1 T organic honey
- 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper—leave out for your little ones
- 1 thumb-sized piece of fresh peeled ginger
- Juice of 1 lemon
Blend or puree ingredients until smooth. Strain if you wish. Take 1 to 2 tablespoons as needed. Keep in refrigerator for 5 to 7 days.
Lemon and honey are often suggested as a natural method of soothing your throat, but this might be the first time you’ve heard of pineapple for cough and cold. Pineapple is a natural anti-inflammatory, and when combined with the other soothing and antioxidant-rich ingredients, it proves to be a powerful cold and cough buster.
