Using Pumpkin To Soothe Your Upset Tummy

pumpkin for your upset tummy

Years ago, one of my dearest friends was struggling with major tummy and digestive issues. She’d been to internists and specialists of all types and ultimately traveled from Texas, to the Mayo Clinic in Florida, to have advanced testing and diagnostics. After years of prescription meds and endless tests and procedures, incorporating pureed pumpkin into her daily diet was the solution.

Who Knew Pumpkin Was So Impressive?

I’d heard of giving pumpkin to cats and dogs when they are throwing up or have diarrhea, but never considered this trick could work for humans too. Within a week, my friend was feeling substantially better; incredibly, within a month, all but resolved.

Using Pumpkin To Soothe Your Upset Tummy

Pumpkin puree is easy to digest, high in potassium and soluble fiber—and low in starch and sugar. It soothes and calms your upset tummy, either chronic or acute. It can be used for:

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Acid reflux
  • Gas and bloating
  • Pumpkin seeds for parasites

Start off with just a tablespoon 2 or 3 times a day, and increase from there. Blend into a smoothie, stir into yogurt, or eat solo. Also consider pumpkin soup and other recipes with pumpkin and pumpkin seeds.

Pumpkin might be a seasonal squash, but you can easily find pureed canned pumpkin year-round. Organic is the best option, but just don’t accidentally buy pumpkin pie mix. Feel free to use pumpkin as a proactive approach, even when you don’t have an upset tummy.
