What is the first thing you do when your alarm clock goes off in the morning? For many, after hitting snooze a few times, it is to check your email, social media, voicemail, and text messages. Even if your phone is your alarm clock, you should make a conscious effort to ease into your day.
Resist The Temptation
I know, it feels impossible when your phone is in your hand anyway—but set a goal to wait at least 10 minutes after waking up to check your messages. Bonus points if you can wait until you are showered, dressed, and have eaten breakfast.
Set A Soothing Alarm
One of my favorite things about using my mobile as my alarm clock, are the soothing alternatives to buzzers that startle you out of slumber. If you prefer a traditional alarm clock, look for one that offers less jarring alarms.
Adopt A Morning Ritual
Another effective way you can ease into your day, is to adopt a morning ritual. This might require you to get up a few minutes earlier than usual, but can set the stage for a productive day. What your morning ritual is, is entirely up to you—but here are a few ideas to consider:
- Reading a daily inspirational calendar, quote, or devotional
- Doing a guided AM meditation
- 10 minutes of stretching, yoga, or deep breathing
- Slowly sipping a cup of tea
The tips above will help you to start your day off right. Test out a few until you find the right fit!
