Have you ever watched a TedTalk, read an amazing true story, or watched someone you know in awe—and wondered how they do it? It’s easy to think that those who inspire us have something special that we are lacking, but why not you?
“They” Are More Like You Than You Think
As of late, I’ve been actively trying to remove the word “they” from my vocabulary. I’ve realized that in many cases my use of the word “they” is used to define myself as different than someone else. In this case, as less than the accomplished inspirational individuals. Think something more like, “if they can, I can too!”
Face Your Fears
It’s easy to decide you can’t do something, and challenging to face your fears. However, it is also exciting to face your fears! Next time you catch yourself saying “I can’t”, instantly replace it with “why not me”
You Have Done It Before
Another thing to keep in mind, is that we have all accomplished things that other see as brave—but we may see as something we simply desired to do. Lena Dunham says it best, “It’s not brave to do something that doesn’t scare you.”
The goal should never be to achieve the exact same feat as someone else, because everything you do should be unique!
