What Is Your Personal Brand?

Why Personal Branding Is A Must

The first thing that comes to mind when most of us think of branding, is how to market or establish a business, product, or service. However, personal branding is required if you really want to get ahead. So, what is your personal brand?

What Is Your Personal Brand?

There is a reason why more professionals should hire a resume writer to interview them, and write their resume and cover letter. Most of us have a hard time tooting our own horn, or translating accomplishments into a recruiter-magnet resume. To identify your personal brand, you must establish what makes you unique. Why hiring you instead of one of the many qualified competitors will benefit an organization.

How To Market Your Personal Brand?

Just like any other brand, you will have to invest in marketing yourself. There are many ways to do this, some which are free—some which will require an investment of time or resources.

  • Post self-written articles to LinkedIn or as a “contributed” to Forbes, Thrive Global, or other sites which allow you to contribute for free. Add links back to these articles.
  • Create a resume website where you can visualize your resume, skill set, and achievements.
  • If appropriate, and especially if you are self-employed, utilize social networks for both free and paid advertising.

This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to personal branding, and is often the tipping point in your success vs. someone who utilizes traditional job search methods.
