Can Epsom Salt Improve Your Sleep?

Whether you have a difficult time sleeping most nights, or only when stressed to the max—you may be searching for a natural way to help you get the rest your body craves. Why not try Epsom salt to improve your sleep?

Epsom Salt Is Not Table Salt

First up, Epsom salt might look like table or rock salt used to season your food—but it is actually magnesium.

Add 2 Cups To Your PM Bath

One of the ways to improve your sleep with Epsom salt is to add 2 to 4 cups to your PM bath. Bonus points if you use a natural calming essential blend like lavender—or add a few drops of a soothing aromatherapy blend to your water. Soak for at least 20 minutes for relaxation, 45 minutes to really let the magnesium nourish your stressed muscles and joints.

Drink As Directed

You might be shocked to learn, but plain Epsom salts (no essential oils) can be used for internal cleansing—and improved sleep. You can dissolve 1 to 4 teaspoons in 8 ounces of water. Start small as this magnesium blend acts as a mild laxative, so if you aren’t constipated less is fine. Take shortly before bedtime. The magnesium will gently cleanse your colon and liver, but more importantly, will help you achieve a deep sleep.

Take Epsom salt baths as often as you like, but only drink the salt 1 or 2 times a week—or as advised by your physician or naturopath.
