We’ve all heard the saying ‘When mom’s happy everyone’s happy’. The reason for this is simple—stress is contagious.
Aren’t We Responsible For Our Individual Outlook?
Yes, we are responsible for our own mindset and reactions but when constantly surrounded by stress there are few who can maintain balance. If you are in a stressful work environment, if your partner is stressed or anxious, or if your child is depressed—it will impact everyone. More importantly, as a parent who is prone to stress, you must be mindful that your reactions to life circumstances are often behavior your children will model and adopt.
How to manage stress is not a one-size-fits-all solution so you may need to try a few different things before you find what works for you. Some ideas to consider include:
- Gong bath class
- Listening to binary beats or ASMR
- Steam, sauna, or hot bath
- Spending time in nature
- Doing something you enjoy
- Talk therapy
- Taking a vacation or weekend getaway
- Eliminating the stressor
Last but not least we must accept what we cannot change or control and remember that worrying about outcomes is a waste of our precious time. This is especially important if stress and anxiety is your constant state of being. Put things in perspective by focusing on the present moment, not the past or the future.
Life is meant to be joyful, not stressful. If you can eliminate the source of stress do that but it’s not always an option—so learning to manage stress is a must.
