What Does It Mean To Be Mindful?

What Does It Mean To Be Mindful

For many, mindfulness is one of the many new age philosophy buzzwords. But what does it really mean to be mindful?

What Is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is the process of doing everything you do with intention—including essential daily tasks such as cooking, eating, driving to work, and brushing your teeth. However, much of what we do each day is done on autopilot. For example, you can eat your lunch at your desk barely recalling what you just ate or you can be mindful and savor every bite. If not on autopilot we multitask rarely giving anything our undivided attention.

It’s The Little Things That Matter Most

By being mindful you will be more aware and grateful for the small joys in life. It’s the perfect way to improve the quality of your time, both solo and with your loved ones. Even if a day, week or month doesn’t have anything out of the normal day-to-day—you will be mindful of the little things that make life worth living.

Being Mindful Breaks The Monotony

Being mindful also breaks the monotony and opens you up to opportunities that may not be on your radar due to the everyday nature of what you are doing. For example, you are more likely to strike up a conversation with someone in a café if you are mindful than if you are just waiting impatiently for your coffee.

If it helps you can find a few mindful practices to help you focus, but don’t forget that absolutely everything you can be done with intention.
