Thanksgiving is just a few weeks away and Hanukkah, Kwanza, Christmas, and New Years are just around the corner. If you will be hosting the holidays at your house this year, the sooner you start getting organized the better.
Comforts Of Home
If you have guests who will be staying overnight it’s time to ensure you have the comforts they need. Inspect, wash, or replace sheets, blankets, comforters, and pillows. If your house is a shoe-free zone, invest in some cozy socks or house slippers. Non-slip if you have wood floors. Purchase a few extra toothbrushes, tubes of toothpaste, loofas, hair and body products, and other daily essentials.
Stock Up On Beverages
Both your overnight guests and your guests the day of will have different preferences in beverages. This goes beyond wine, beer, and soda—to juice, coffee, caffeinated and decaffeinated tea, bottled water, electrolyte beverages, and dairy alternatives.
As good as it is to spend time with friends and family we don’t get to see often, we all need our space. If guests will be crashing in a kid’s room, make a list of all of the required clothing, toys, and daily essentials so that you can minimize disruption. If your loved one will be sleeping on the couch or in a shared space, be mindful of how much time you spend in their space—especially in the mornings and evenings.
Last but not least, don’t take it personally if a guest prefers to stay in a hotel or Airbnb as we all have our own comfort zone.
