Cleansing and detoxing are both buzzwords in green and healthy living, but you aren’t alone if you aren’t quite what it means or why you need to detox your body.
We All Have Toxins In Our Bodies
The food we eat, air we breathe, products we use on our body and in our home, and our daily lifestyle habits can increase the number of toxins or free-radicals in our body. Without healthy habits that cleanse our body, these toxins can lead to illness and disease.
Cleansing Doesn’t Have To Be Extreme
There is an endless type of short-term fasting diets and extreme cleansing products for your colon, liver, kidneys, and more. While there are a time and place for a 1 day to 1 week cleanse, cleansing doesn’t need to be extreme. You can cleanse regularly by:
- Drinking more water and unsweetened herbal tea
- Deep breathing to cleanse your lungs
- Exercising, steaming, or taking an Epsom salt bath
- Eliminating processed sugars and processed foods
- Boosting the antioxidants in your diet
When Should You Do A Deep Cleanse?
If you want to go a bit more extreme to balance your body, go vegan for 1 month every 6 to 12 months. You could also fast for a week once or twice a year, but not more. If you have recently taken prescriptions or are overcoming an illness cleansing products may help. A sugar-free cleanse can help kickstart your new healthy eating plan. You could do periodic heavy metal and/or colon cleanses—or even a colonic.
Contrary to the fads, cleansing can and should be gentle—not invasive or extreme.
