If you are like me there are nights when my mind is so busy buzzing about all I must do tomorrow or rehashing the stressors of the day that I can’t relax enough to get to sleep. On nights like that, I grab my headphones and listen to ASMR.
What Is ASMR?
The answer is a bit tricky. ASMR stands for autonomous sensory meridian response. This is a response that can be triggered in a variety of ways, one of the most popular of which is by listening to an ASMR YouTube artist a try. The goal is to create a euphoric and relaxing tingling sensation by listening to their tapping, scratching, or whispering. You have to try it to really understand.
20 Minutes Can Be Enough
Sometimes I listen to full hour videos, but I prefer the roleplay of spa scenarios or sleep clinics when I need to rest. Most are 20 to 30 minutes, which is long enough to shift my attention from my stress and listen to the soothing sound triggers. Just make sure that you turn off the autoplay feature so that in case you fall asleep the next video won’t wake you up.
What I’ve found is that there are artists that you will really like, while others aren’t the right at all. So, listen to a few different artists before you decide is ASMR is right for you.
