Feasting on the regional cuisine is one of the many joys of travel, but you don’t completely want to blow your healthy habits. Here are some tips for eating healthy while you travel.
Embrace The Splurge
First up, vacations are a time to treat yourself so allow yourself to splurge without guilt. If it’s just a weekend away, take the weekend off your diet. If it’s more than a day or two aim for one splurge meal per day—and a set number of splurge beverages.
Plan Ahead
Regardless of your dietary needs, head online to figure out what dishes and which restaurants are a must while traveling. This will help you to map out your splurge meals, but many regional dishes won’t be a splurge if you keep portion control in mind.
Head To The Grocery Store
Pack non-liquid and non-perishable snacks to take with you on the airplane. Once you arrive head to a local grocery or health food store for snacks or to cook at least one meal per day. When I travel I always book a room with a mini fridge and microwave. This allows me to have my regular breakfast and to reheat left overs.
Last but not least, be sure to pack a reusable water bottle.
