The term “health and wellness” gets tossed around a lot, but what is wellness? Is it separate from health or a factor to health? Here are some thoughts to ponder.
What Is Wellness?
According to the World Health Organization, “Wellness is a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” Many would take this a few steps further to include a balanced mind, body, and spirit—as well as happiness and prosperity.
Wellness Is Driven By You
We are in an exciting time where we are empowered to take our health and wellness into our own hands. Where we can turn to yoga, meditation, affirmations, EFT tapping, sound therapy, and more—as both a proactive and reactive approach to wellness. We are not left at the mercy of our body.
An Integrative Approach
Wellness does not exclude modern medicine but instead encourages a progressive approach. It includes treating the cause, while addressing the acute symptoms. It leaves many looking for integrative medical practices that combine Western, Eastern, and naturopathic methods of health—where you work with a team opposed to just a sole physician.
Last but not least, wellness require you to have a health social life with at least a few close loved ones who support your dreams and your wellness.
