Whether born out of authenticity or wearing what makes you feel most comfortable, being underdressed can be a problem. Is your style holding you back from success?
Perception Is Reality
People shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but they do. If you want to be taken seriously as a professional you have to dress the part. What this looks like will vary greatly depending on your industry and the specific company that you work for. This doesn’t mean that you can’t be comfortable at work just that you must elevate your style with items that work for you. If you aren’t sure how to make this happen, use the department store’s personal stylist—or hire a stylist.
Dressing For Success
It’s inspiring to see successful businessmen wearing ultra-casual jeans and t-shirt as a daily wardrobe—but that’s not going to work for most of us until we achieve a certain level of success. This means that you need to kick what you wear up a notch. If you freelance or work from home most days, keep it casual at home but dress the part when you have meetings.
Dress How You Want To Feel
While it’s nice to be casual at home, I find that I am more productive when I am dressed for the day—not still working in my pjs. Whether it’s working from home, your daily office attire or what to wear for a big presentation dress in an outfit that boost your confidence.
With just a few small changes you can leave a positive professional impression.
