To truly grow we must be open to the learning process and one of the most important aspects of learning is to challenge what we already believe to be true.
As Aristotle says, “It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.”
Knowing Can Leave You Behind
We live in a world that is changing at a rate that is faster than ever before. If we continue to hold on to thoughts or systems that no longer meet the needs of this rapid evolution of information, you may get left behind. This could be as simple as not updating or learning new industry technology or software because you already know how to use another method—one that may soon (or already) fall short.
Unlearning Makes Life Easier
When we hold tight to beliefs, whether our own or the ones we were raised to believe in our family or culture, we often go against what comes naturally to us. When we start listening to and learning more about our natural rhythms life becomes easier, less stressful and more fulfilling.
An Unlimited Way Of Thinking
Unlearning is the only way to learn more. Unlearning requires critical thinking skills. It challenges you to question why the status quo is the status quo and if the status quo works for you. Unlearning can initially be a nerve-wracking mindset shift but one that is ultimately freeing.
