Watching extreme weight loss shows has many of us setting unrealistic goals for shedding our excess pounds. So, if you have weight to lose you might be wondering how much weight you should lose each month? Here are a few things you need to consider.
There Is No Set Number
I know it’s not what you want to hear, but there is no magic number. If you are making healthy lifestyle changes it is unlikely that you will lose more than 2 pounds per week. However, if you have lots of weight to lose or you eliminate a major unhealthy habit you may lose more. For example, I had a friend who stopped drinking their 6 sodas a day and lost 30 pounds in 2 months. I had another friend with a high-stress and toxic job who lost 10 pounds 2 weeks after quitting. However, these are the exceptions and should not be the expectation.
Focus More On Health
Instead of focusing only on the number on the scale, focus on a few specific health goals. For example, focus on increasing your energy, endurance, and flexibility, and utilizing food to heal your body. For example, I experience more pain when my diet is higher in processed sugars. Or maybe you focus more on improving digestion. Or improving your sleep. As you start to feel a positive difference the pounds won’t matter as much.
Here’s to making health, not weight your goal in 2020!
