You may find that due to your increased concerns for hygiene and safety that you are not as green since COVID-19 began. It’s ok, as you can balance conscious living with your increased cleaning routine.
Know Your Disinfectants
We must understand and prioritize the difference between clean and disinfected. Rubbing alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, and bleach can all kill the Coronavirus. Hydrogen peroxide is the greenest of the 3, but it can stain clothing and can irritate your fingers with direct contact. It is also fume-free. Add it to a spray bottle and spray it on hard surfaces. Use rubbing alcohol and bleach in well-ventilated areas, and be sure to properly dilute bleach to 4 tablespoons per quart of water.
Washable Or Made From Recycled
Washable masks are great, so stock up to ensure you always have enough for easy rotation—and be sure to carry at least one extra with you. However, you may find yourself in need of disposables. Not to worry as you can find masks, gloves, and other PPE made from recycled materials. You may be using more paper towels at the moment, which you can also find in recycled options.
Aim for 90 percent green options, but if it is a bit lower than that during the pandemic to give yourself peace of mind—don’t beat yourself up.
