Improving your EQ (emotional intelligence) will have a positive ripple effect in both your personal and professional life. Many of us aim to improve in just one area of our lives, or in one relationship, but you can apply your new skills with every interaction.
We speak with the goal of communicating what we have to say, but when you increase your EQ you improve the level at which you connect and engage. This can make your interactions more meaningful and make you and the person you are speaking to feel closer and more aligned—even when you aren’t in agreement.
When you better understand a person’s feelings, meaning, and intentions you can improve performance in a variety of ways. For example, when you understand employees you can support them better in their role, either by adjusting your communication or assigning and personalizing their projects to suit their strengths. If it’s a friend or family member you will better understand what they need empowering you to be of greater support.
It takes time and practice but by understanding the feeling behind what is being said verbally and non-verbally all of your relationships will positively shift.
