Between ongoing social distancing and the weather cooling down, we’re all spending more time at home. Inspired by the Danish lifestyle trend, here is how to hygee your home.
What Is Hygge?
Hygge (pronounced hoo-gah) is a way of living. It refers to creating a home that promotes wellness, that you eagerly look forward to coming home to. The goal is to create a home that is warm, inviting, and cozy. This lifestyle trend obviously works, because even with as few as 7 hours of sunlight per day during the winter months, the Danes remain one of the happiest countries in the world.
You Can Keep Your Interior Design Style
It doesn’t matter what your design aesthetic is, you can hygee your home. For example, if you prefer contemporary, find a couch and chairs that are slim and modern with soft and spacious cushions that you can snuggle up in. Add texture with your rugs, pillows, and snuggly throw blankets. Add touches of nature to create a calm and tranquil environment. Fragrance your home with essential oils and soy candles, in either soothing lavender or—or warm vanilla and bergamot.
Change Your Clothes When You Get Home
Enclothed cognition is essential for getting cozy at home. The concept is to dress how you feel. So, get dressed in the morning for work, even if you are working from home. Then, when you get home for the day or are done working from home—change into something soft, cozy, and comfortable.
Here’s to making your home your haven!
