It might feel impossible if you aren’t all that enthusiastic about your current closet, but you can build a wardrobe you love.
Define Your Style
Before you start shopping for new items, it’s time to define your style. This is either your current style or the style you want to transition to. If it helps, try on the items in your closet that you love and define why you love them. You can also flip through magazines and create a digital collage of looks you love.
Purge Your Closet
Understanding what you already have that works is key to building a wardrobe you love. Many of us have tons of items in our closet, but only wear a handful. If you only wear a few items because they fit, purge almost everything and head out to shop for your new style.
Minimize Trends, Maximize Separates
Trends are fun but they go out of style so you should invest in them sparingly, and only in trends that look good on you. The more separates you have the more you can mix and match to create a variety of stylized outfits. This should include several solid and neutral bottoms, so that you can easily mix, match, and layer both solid and patterned tops.
Here’s to your new wardrobe!
