Minimize Your Holiday Tummy Troubles

Holiday Tummy Troubles

Thanksgiving was only the beginning of holiday indulgence. With several weeks left to go, you may already be experiencing digestive issues. Here’s how to keep your holiday tummy troubles to a minimum.

Limit Foods And Beverages That Make Things Worse

We crave our holiday season go-to’s but if they upset your tummy, enjoy them in moderation—or be proactive. Carry Lactaid with you if you are lactose intolerant. Only eat a tiny bit of greasy or fried foods if they upset your tummy too. If you have acid reflux carry your OTC or prescription with you, and eat in moderation, and not before bedtime. If you have a gluten allergy, bring gluten-free options with you so that you aren’t tempted to eat gluten. Whatever it is that makes things work, limit or skip it.

Embrace The Micro Workout

Working out helps to speed up sluggish digestion and flushes the increased toxins of your less than clean holiday diet. In addition to your regular workouts, embrace the micro workout. Take a 10 minute walk, do a low-impact stretch session, or a 5 to 15 minute YouTube or app workout.

Hydrate

Keep caffeine and alcohol to a minimum as they will only make matters worse. Keep up with your 8 ounces of water or unsweetened herbal tea per day and add a digestion blend or ginger tea to the mix.

Finally, clean up your non-holiday meals by eating lots of leafy greens, legumes, and fiber-rich grains.
