Your Partner Can’t Read Your Mind

Your Partner Isn't A Mind Reader

Much of the tension and arguments between couples is due to a lack of communication. While it’s nice to think that your partner should know you well enough to know what it is you want from them that mindset is more than unrealistic—and can be the beginning of the end of your relationship.

    Schedule Regular Check-Ins

Checking-in isn’t about nitpicking every little annoyance but to instead keep the lines of communication open. While it is easy to think that we will do this automatically it is a good idea to sit down every 3 or 4 months with the intention of expressing any potential areas of opportunity. This isn’t to say to let things build up until your next check-in but the check-in is a time that you both commit to the general health of your relationship.

When The Little Things Fall By The Wayside

We’re all busy meaning that there will inevitably be blocks of time when some of the thoughtful little things we usually do for one another fall by the wayside. As partners, we must occasionally let these things go. If you can’t recall the last time your partner did something that you really miss, such as your husband cooking you your favorite dinner, it’s a perfect topic to bring up during the check-in. Odds are they don’t recall how long it’s been and may not know how much you appreciate the gesture.

Whatever you do don’t let what is disappointing you build up and share your feelings with sincerity and empathy.
